Sarah Surrain
Education Researcher
Sarah Surrain is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Children’s Learning Institute at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She completed her Ph.D. in Human Development, Learning and Teaching in 2021 at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her research centers on how young children learn through social interactions at home and school, with the goal of developing culturally and linguistically sustaining interventions for preschool-aged children. She is particularly interested in how language environments at home and school support children’s acquisition and maintenance of minoritized home languages such as Spanish in the United States. Prior to her doctoral studies, Sarah was a curriculum developer and literacy coach in Spanish-English bilingual classrooms in Chicago.
