Sarah Surrain

Sarah Surrain is an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She studies how emergent bilingual children develop foundational language and literacy skills through responsive interactions with caregivers. She aims to inform and develop strengths-based interventions for emergent bilingual children with language difficulties. Her work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Institute of Education Sciences, and the Spencer Foundation, and has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals. Prior to joining UNLV, Dr. Surrain was a postdoctoral researcher at the Children’s Learning Institute at UTHealth Houston. She earned her Ph.D. in Human Development, Learning & Teaching from Harvard University and previously worked as a literacy coach in bilingual classrooms.
